Jaws has found his DREAM HOME!!!

So here's the sad part of the story, are you ready? Jaws had a very interested adopter that was approved to adopt and was doing responsible research on the little guy by calling a vet for an opinion on adopting him. The vet basically called little Jaws a LEMON!!! It worried her so much she walked away from adopting the little guy. She even had a heated bed for him!

So here's the great great wonderful news! Fate will have it that he found the home that he was meant to be in! All things happen for a reason, but as our family has learned sharing time and caring for Jaws... he really thinks he's a big dog and does not act like a chihuahua (other than the chihuahua shiver :). He would have felt out of place in the first home of little chi's... instead he is in HEAVEN!

Jaws has 2 American Indian Dogs to play and wrestle with all day! When he first entered the home, it took him about a 1/2 of a second to see the chair that was set up for him complete with a bed, toy and blanket to keep him warm! He also has a big backyard that he immediately investigated ever inch of and then came back in with the big dogs to watch football with his new dad! I'm telling you, he is one cool dude! oh yeah, and his new dad is a chef and plans on handmaking him healthy dog treats. Now that is a rough new life.

As for his new mom, he is in love! She has tons of energy and goes for crazy long hikes and runs to wear out her other two dogs. Funny thing is, Jaws already has her wrapped around his little paw because he scored a doggy backpack so he can hitch a ride and not over exert himself!

His new family has committed to his physical therapy and is working towards the best outcome from the surgery. There is not a doubt in the world that should this little guy with an underbite, who has been through so much, not use that leg 100% correctly, that his new family will love him just as he is. He already has a little snuggle spot on their bed at night to stay night and toasty warm.
Jaws, we are all so happy for you, especially little Lukas who shared his bed every night with Jaws to keep him warm for many weeks.

Count Jawcula!

October 31st, before his surgery, Jaws was out on the town scaring all the little lady chihuahua's! He made a friends at everydoor when he asked for candy :)

Resting nicely

Jaws is resting comfortably in a super cushy bed with blankets. He does look a little pitiful right now with his hip shaved with staples and its looking swollen. But funny enough, he just wants to snuggle and still give an occasional kiss! Our other dogs have given him a good sniff and realize he needs them to be gentle. The pain meds are helping and he is eating well. What a sweetheart! He gets a few very short trips outside today but gets peeled grapes and kids fanning him later!

The Background of Jaws

Jaws, a little tiny sweet chihuahua, found himself in a high kill shelter in the rural south most likely as a result of the Gulf Spill and economic loss in the area. He had no family that was caring for him or caring whether he survived. He was close to euthanasia when Lucky Dog saw him in need of help!
With the help of a special rescue mission that transported 171 dogs that had run out of time in shelters, Jaws was flown to safety. Pilot n Paws flew Jaws and others from the Gulf to Northern Virgina and beyond, but Jaws landed into the loving hands of excited and dedicated Lucky Dog Volunteers that day. Jaws was the first to give kisses and show his appreciated for saving his life! He came off the plane happy, wagging, and kissing anyone who would let him.
Jaws' bad luck continued though! When Jaws got to the DC area, it was discovered that he was poorly cared for in his previous "home". He was diagnosed with mild, stage 1 heartworm. As a result of Lucky Dog's quick medical care, he received full treatment and is already on the road to full recover. The vets say he will not suffer any health impairments and is already playing around with his dog pals in his temporary foster home.

Unfortunately, the story of Jaws continues. Through all of this adventure, he had been occassionally holding his hind right leg up and only using it part of the time. We were all wishing it was something minor like a simple strain that would heal quickly, but no such luck for this little guy. After having him checked out by Dr. Smith at Hayfield Animal Hospital and muliple xrays, it was discovered that he has a bad hip. It apparently has been malformed and is what is called Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. With further consultation, we were told that the only way to improve his hip was through a procedure called an FHO or Femoral Head and Neck Excision. This procedure is extremely costly, but Lucky Dog sees this another opportunity to improve a dog's life, making him more mobile, more comfortable, and ready for adoption to his forever home. We can not do this without you! Please donate today to help this little guy. He is as sweet as they come and is great with every dog of all sizes and even little humans (which is not always typical of chihuahua's). Please help Jaw today!
